M.Raveri:Measuring the speed of GW

Gravitational radiation can provide important information, when other means of observations are impossible. Cosmological and astrophysical sources for gravitational waves, related with astroparticle physics, news on the development of gravitational wave experiments are the topic of discussions here.

M.Raveri:Measuring the speed of GW

New postby Maxim Khlopov on Tue 30 Sep 2014 16:52

On 26.09.2014 M.Raveri gave a VIA talk "Measuring the speed of GW".
It's record is in VIA Library:
http://viavca.in2p3.fr/marco.raveri.html
The following questions and comments were put in Discussion:
Shantanu: There is also one more method proposed and carried out by Sergei Kopeikin(who sometimes attends this forum) using Shapiro delay of moving object. This was in 2003

Houri Ziaeepour: You said that the effect of GW speed is not degenerate with other parameters. But if DE is due to modified GR there must be a relation with expansion rate, etc.

Shantanu: let me ask a naive question. Can the speed of gravitational waves found from such measurements be used a null test? In other words how would the signal look like if you got a speed of gravitational waves= infinity

Houri Ziaeepour: Thanks. I gave the expansion rate as an example. Another degenerate parameter would be equation of state of DE.
